Early 20th Century Belgian War Lace

Lace which included the emblems of the Allied Nations was made in Belgium during the years of World War I. It was popularly called "War Lace."

This Point De Paris doily includes emblems of four nations: The lion for Belgium, the unicorn for Great Britain, the rooster for France and the bear for Russia, which for some years before the Revolution was an Allied Nation.

Point de Paris doilies showing identical motifs are shown in Kellogg's book "Bobbins of Belgium." Those were said to have been made in Turnhout, Belgium.

Size: 8 1/2 inches in diameter. Lace is about 2 1/2 inches deep. Condition, excellent.
